Ekundayo’s first solo show in LA in over three years is coming up on Friday, June 11th at Thinkspace.



Eknudayo's paintings are simply amazing and is an inspiration looking at his skillful work...when I first saw him painting in person at the Culver City INVASION (May2009), I instantly became a fan...here's a couple flicks from the show.

Youngskull Portraiture

 Hello...

I love holidays. You get a chance to stay up the night before, sleep in till noon and be lazy watching daytime television.  However I didn't get a chance to do any of those fun things.  Instead I spent most of the day painting.
This is my second attempt at "Young skull" stencil (you can view the first here)...I used an old frame I picked up at a Thrift store and painted it flat black. It only cost me $1.50. So I picked up a few for future use...

I arrived pretty late at Gunnzo and caught the last part of the judging...the customs were awesome and the seeing kids customizing put a smile on my face.

The DIY contest had 2 categories and one of them was to bring in your best customs. Unfortunately, there were no names to the customs...here's a few shots.

Local artist Jose Reynoso revealed his brand new figure “Gumpy” (Castro edition with custom cigar packaging)...a pretty clean figure. I love the eye brows on this guy.






Not part of the show, but I wanted to share this sweet little toy by Matt Siren (Ghost girl)...When I was in San Francisco and saw one of his wheatpastes, I thought that would look sweet as a toy. Basic Tuesdays @ Bar Basic - June 8th

Coming this June, Thumbprint Gallery will be hosting a collection of artwork at Bar Basic (Downtown San Diego)...

Thumbprint Gallery will be featuring a collection of abstract artwork by local artists, including Rich Walker, True, Mofo, Carl Schmidt and Martha Martin. The last Basic Tuesday we went to (here) was a great time and the vibe was pretty chill.  So if you feel like forgetting about work; if you like music and art...want to eat some pretty damn good thin crust pizza or down a few Fat Tires, Levitation, and/or Red Trolllys...then come and join us (Nasty crew) to support local SD art.

Gunnzo DIY Contest & Trading Party

Gunnzo, our very own San Diego based vinyl toy shop will be hosting a DIY (do-it-yourself) custom contest and trading party this weekend. To top it off, there will be 4 special guest judges: Paul Kaiju, kaNO, John “Spanky” Stokes, and local artist  Jose Reynoso who will also be revealing  a sneak preview of his new figure “Gumpy”...so if you're in the San Diego area and feeling creative, make your way to the shop and say hello.

I think this is Ekundayo...


and lastly, this was one of my favorite paintings at the show...from looking at the style (especially of the girl's eyes) I believe this to be an original Audrey Kawasaki. if my assumption is correct, Joukar is one extremely lucky guy to have an original painting. Kawasaki's pieces are notoriously hard to get and I'm just speaking of just the prints..
UPDATE:  I'm way off with this one.  This painting is by Stella Im Hultberg, a painter living and working in Brooklyn, NYC...thanks to soma city for the correction.
