Thank you nasty weather

Hello...

I got an unexpected call from an unknown number early this morning and since it was unknown, I let the voice mail pick it up.  I was already getting to that "waking up on the wrong side of the bed" type morning and waking up 40 min before the alarm didn't make the situation any better. Anyways,  I checked my voice mail, and I heard a familiar voice, It was my cowerker.  Immediately I knew what he was going to say. Our area is known for flooding.  And since it's been raining crazy for the past 3 straight days, it was bound to happen. My cowerker says:

"Access roads are flooded and the power is out"

I was ecstatic, like a kid finding out he didn't have to go to school.

Graffiti Carson CA Train Tracks LA

I thought I share some graffiti photos I took when I first made the move to Carson. The spot is actually walking distance from the pad along the train tracks between Wilmington Ave and Avalon Blvd on 223rd Street. I road the old Nishiki to the tracks one day after my werk intern.

Ready for paint...

Hello...

Finished all cuts last night!  And it was so much easier cutting the 6 ply board which cut down the cutting time drastically.  It probably took me about 8-10 hours to cut vs the hand stencil which took almost a week.

...so, since I couldn't spray at night (we don't have much light in the Nasty), I decided to head to downtown and bring with me a few friends.

*RECAP* Alexander Salazar Fine Art Auction House

Hello...

Plastik Circus with Alexander Salazar holds an auction for select SDSU students at his new 5,000 sqaure foot space.  Nasty crew made it for it's last night of auction.  Most of the paintings were either sold or beginning to be taken down, but we were still able to appreciate some still up.  Great work by new emerging local artist!

Back to werk...

Hello...

Back to the grind and back to cutting out stencils.  After watching a brief Mike Giant interview, I was rejuvenated.  The only way to get things done is to jump on it , keep at it, werk straight through and dont' f*ck around.  Wise words from a wise man.

I've been in a process of staying up late werking on art and it felt like I was back in architecture school.  Back then I'd werk late into the night and to the next morning in the studio, trying to conjure up conceptual ideas/drawings/sketches and werk my hand to death making huge scaled models.  Don't get me wrong, I may sound like I'm complaining but I'm not.  I loved every minute of it...well, mostly.

And just a week since my last stencil, I'm back at it. Next year the Nasty crew will be participating in a group art show in January, so look out for that.  Below is another multi-layered stencil: 10 layers.

I found a great image and immediately wanted to stencil it. I chose it mainly for it's composition and also I thought it would look interesting once I took out all the background and just focus on the action. I wanted to mimic the style I did with the stencil hands and do a dark portrait style with heavy shadows.

On a side note, I found some cheaper and much more thinner cardboard/stock paper. To the left is (10) 6 ply board and to the right is just (8) of that thick ass chip board.  Never again.

*DREAMER* by Kelli Murray @ Habitat House

Hello...

Local artist Kelli Murray held a solo exhibition and is first artist to debut at Habitat House.  Known throughout the neighborhood has a music venue, this craftsman-style home located in Golden Hills is now opening it's door to art.

Obviously this was my first visit and like most "first time" visits, I was a bit nervous.  Only because I didn't know what to expect...I walked up the stairs through the craftsman-style doors, and felt the warm, nicely lit room.  It was welcoming.  I walked around a bit just to feel out the crowd and I noticed it was just another walk in the park.  I saw some familiar faces and said what's uppers.  Briefly had a conversation with some locals...basically another chill vibe, haha..

Great line work! I also liked how she added the gray wooden planks behind each piece.  It added texture and gave a sense of "nature" and "wilderness" that you can see throughout her pieces.

Kelli isn't messing around...on top of her paintings, she also made cards and prints.
