*RECAP* Scott Saw & Nick McPherson's "Nocturnal" @ Thumbprint Gallery

Hello...

Thumbprint Gallery presents new works by Scott Saw and Nick McPherson.

Nocturnal Flier
[PRESS]
Nick McPherson has been slowly and steadily carving out a niche for himself in San Diego as a professional illustrator and designer since showing up on my door step in the summer of 2005. Nick approaches his work more like a blue collar worker than an ethereal or conceptual style artist.
His process is very simple. Nick works at a design studio from the hours of 9 to 5. He then goes home to draw and paint. He wakes up and repeats this process nearly every day. He has not changed this routine in the entire time that I have known him.
The result is a body of work that changes very subtly over time, but always for the better. His pieces do not force you to engage some sort of touchy political statement or attempt to address the media’s “drama du jour” if you will. They simply are what they appear to be. If his painting has skeletons playing music he will most likely title it “Skeletons Playing Music”. In the sea of artists trying to play the role Nick McPherson is a drop of talent and egoless wonder that can be taken in by nearly everyone. [via Nick McPherson]

[PRESS]  Scott Saw creates vibrant, energetic paintings where dreams and current surroundings cross-pollinate with childhood memories and subconscious interpretations of the afterlife. His work entangles birth, life and death and explores the relationship between the physical and spiritual worlds. Saw's paintings have been regarded as romanticized gothic landscapes of nature, misfits and oddities.
"I’m inspired by space, nature, the universe, love, passion, sadness, euphoria, beauty, vitality, physics, death, the idea that there is more to our existence than this short life on Earth. My art truly It is a reflection of what is going on inside me. It's a way for me to express deep feelings and ideas... a way to keep a secret and spill my guts at the same time. It’s therapy."
Saw was born in 1971 and raised in San Diego, California by artistic parents who encouraged him to learn the fundamentals of art and design at a young age. Scott received degrees in both Art and Marketing from San Diego State University in 1998. He currently runs Sawblade Design, a freelance design company and lives in San Diego, California.
