Gumaro Pina's SDSU Studio Visit

Hello...

So it's been awhile now, since our good friend Pina told us about his latest work(s).  I was pretty excited to come and make a studio visit but because of a hectic schedule the past few weeks,  it has been really busy for the Nasty Crew and actual free time was scarce (for instance, day jobs, school, werking on panels/stickers/concepts, keeping up with the NASTY blog, etc, etc...)

Sounds like excuses, I know...But I finally made some time last night to make a visit.

The night starts out like any other night at SDSU.   First find parking. Pina forgot his parking permit and we had to pay park where I believe to be the front of the school (near trolley and the "bridge"). We then take a journey to his studio space at the other end of the school. It's been while since my last SDSU visit, so I didn't mind the walk.  Besides, I wanted scope out some potential "spots" and also it gave me a chance to catch up with our new Nasty friend.

I have to say that Pina has grown a lot since I last saw him live painting at Bar Basic about a year ago.  I notice his lines are becoming more defined and less bold.  Thus creating a more "subtle" look.  His tones and shadows are also developing too.  I wish to see his progression though.  Unfortunately like most artist, Pina forgets to take process photos.  Nonetheless, it's great work!

UPDATE:  Scratch out what I said about not taking any photos.  I spoke too soon. Pina has updated his blog. Go check them out here.

Met some interesting people last night and shared some funny stories. From a Vietnamese guy with a Mexican nick name "Loco" to conversations and/or debates on prostitution vs escorts.  Don't ask me, I was just a mere observer.  Note to self, look up "turtles humping".  Thrust me, look it up.  It's the funniest thing you'll ever see an animal do. If you've haven't seen it or you're like me and live under a rock, you'll definitely enjoy it...watch it here.

Anyways, it felt good to be surrounded by like minds. It was great to be in creative environment again.  (Dang, I really miss school right now)
