Product Etcetera - Brand Launch & Pop-Up Shop at 5&A Dime

hello...

In June, our buddy Tony over at Product Etcetera will be launching it's brand at 5&A Dime...don't sleep! go mark this on your calender now!

brand launch & pop up shop at 5&A dime

This past Friday, we had the pleasure of sitting down with our good friend at Oggi's for a few drinks, pizza and share some thoughts about his line.  We also shared rants about San Diego's art scene and why it is the way it is...we have a lot of talented local artists, but as an "art community" we are small time compared to San Francisco, New York and our neighbors to the north, Los Angeles. But maybe that's a good thing...it gives independent brands (like Product Etcetera) to come out even more fierce onto the scene...bottom line we just need more involvement in the art community and more of an effort to get art into San Diego, rather than out of the city...and this is why makes Tony such a cool kat to talk to; rants shared by like minds...

Tony also brought a bag full of samples and here's a small preview of just some of the upcoming hats (made by Flat Fitty, pure ultimate quality!).  I have to say again, We're definitely digging the logo/design werk! simple and iconographic...

...concept behind "WestCoastLove"
A sign of affection for our home, the Pacific side of the United States. Westside Love is a flip on the notorious hand gesture made famous through 90’s hip-hop. Originally used to show respect for the West Coast, the Westside gesture also became a sign used to spite a specific brand of New York City rappers. Although dropping the disrespect, Westside Love still embraces the competitive nature between the two coastlines, & meanwhile salutes its graphic rival, Milton Glaser’s, I Love NY

...concept behind "24/7"
An exercise in semiotics, the 24/7 symbol is a simplified representation of what is known as — 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. It's a symbol that has been in development and refinement since 2006, and that was originally inspired by the ancient symbol for Jupiter (King of Gods, sky, and thunder). It's a semi-universal mark using the Hindu-Arabic numeral system that we hope will be used and recognize as a simplified “24/7” and “Twenty four / Seven.”
